Complete Job Details
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), one of Maharashtra's premier civic bodies, has announced an urgent recruitment drive under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) program for 32 Medical Officer positions. This is a golden opportunity for qualified MBBS doctors to serve the urban poor and vulnerable populations of Thane city while earning a competitive salary and gaining valuable clinical experience. The recruitment is being conducted through a Walk-in Interview process, which means eligible candidates can directly attend the interview on the specified date without prior online application or registration.
The National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) is a flagship program of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, launched in 2013 to improve the health status of urban populations, particularly the urban poor and marginalized communities. Under NUHM, Thane Municipal Corporation operates multiple Urban Primary Health Centers (U-PHCs) across the city providing essential healthcare services including outpatient consultations, maternal and child health services, immunization, family planning, treatment of communicable diseases, and health education programs.
This recruitment offers MBBS doctors an opportunity to work in government-supported healthcare facilities with job security, regular income, and the satisfaction of serving underprivileged communities. The positions are available on both Part-Time and Full-Time basis, providing flexibility for doctors who may have private practice or other professional commitments. Thane Municipal Corporation has a strong reputation for timely salary payments, professional work environment, and supportive administration, making it an attractive employment opportunity for medical professionals.
About Thane Municipal Corporation and NUHM
Thane Municipal Corporation, established in 1982, serves a population of over 18 lakh residents spread across Thane city and surrounding areas. The corporation manages various civic services including healthcare, sanitation, water supply, roads, education, and urban planning. The health department of TMC operates a network of hospitals, dispensaries, maternity homes, and primary health centers providing comprehensive healthcare to residents.
Under the NUHM framework, TMC has established Urban Primary Health Centers in densely populated areas, slum pockets, and underserved localities. These U-PHCs serve as the first point of contact for healthcare services and play a crucial role in preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare delivery. Medical Officers posted at U-PHCs handle a diverse range of medical cases and work closely with paramedical staff, ASHA workers, and community volunteers to improve health outcomes.
Working as a Medical Officer under NUHM provides exposure to public health programs, community medicine practices, and government health initiatives. Doctors gain experience in managing OPD services, emergency cases, maternal and child health programs, immunization drives, epidemic control, and health awareness campaigns. The position also offers opportunities for professional development through training programs, workshops, and continuing medical education sessions organized by the state government.
